My Background
Professional Experience
Since 2005, I have used a recovery-based, compassionate approach while supporting individuals and families experiencing all types of issues as a full-time staff in community mental health agencies. I received an hon. BA from York University in 2005 in the Individualized Studies program in Community-Based Mental Health, and a Masters of Social Worker at the University of Windsor's MSW for Working Professionals in 2012. I have additional training or professional experience with various mindfulness and behaviour-based therapies including: Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT, Level 4), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and I also use some Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and  Solution-Focused Therapy techniques. I have also used art-based therapy in my practice for clients that prefer less talk-based support, and I cofounded and cofacilitated a social circus program for young people who experience mental health distress from 2008-13. Whether you are specifically seeking the above therapies or you have no idea what the differences in therapies might be, feel free to set up a free 1/2 hour phone meeting to see if you are comfortable with me, and the approaches that I use.

Personal Background
After experiencing and recovering from my own life and mental health challenges, I became dedicated to supporting others in their own journeys as human beings in an extremely complex world. I believe that it is important for people to feel  understood on various levels of our humanness, which can often get lost through the medicalized, diagnostic system. While the labeling process can be helpful for some people to build understanding or to help determine medical supports, in my experience many people continue to seek and benefit through the process of a deeper, more human approach to both their challenges and to change. I use an open, non-judgmental and very  genuine approach with my clients. I believe that people's life choices and overall wellness need to be understood as a unique process that is impacted by everything around us. We can all move into a better place...
